Youth Commission Minutes

March 2004

Present - Sammi Cutlip, Terra Cutlip, Pete Avery, Maggie Avery, James Moffitt, Nick Hurd, Bridget Rodriguez, Carol Weist, Wendy Schumacher, Katelyn Koziel, Rachel Haseley, Carmen Seufert

Bishop’s Ball – we had a good turnout, about 35 people. Next year we need to send out flyers/advertisement to get more people. Better selection of music is needed.

Bishop Robinson Society – have held a couple point of entries. They society is focusing on the Buffalo area right now. They are working on setting up a board of directors that will decide how funds will be administered to the various youth and young adult ministries. They are looking for more youth to share their experiences – see Jay P. if interested.

Happening – Brenden Haggerty is Visible piece rector and James Moffitt is the prayer piece rector. Youth leadership on the teams is great. More youth candidates are needed for the weekend to happen.

Convention – the youth would like to have an overnight during the convention in a location that is near the convention (Niagara Falls). This event will be for any youth that would like to see how the convention works and our youth representatives will be able to stay with us.

Disciplinary Guidelines – we reviewed guidelines that Jay put together for all youth related events. Suggestions to the guidelines are:

  1. add youth intervention guided by them/ community intervention.
  2. make clear that these are guidelines and not policy
  3. get the parish clergy’s involvement as soon as possible – they might know something and they are the ones who will have to deal with the families after everything is over.
  4. should have a spiritual side – talk with the Chaplain.
  5. guidelines should be set up for minor offenses.

Jr. High Camp – Fr. Eric wrote a letter that will raise tuition of the camp to $250 and also asked for the junior counselors to pay half the cost to attend camp. Pete motioned to support Fr. Eric’s request and was seconded by Sammi Cutlip. Fr. Carmen expressed her dissapointment that this is what it has come to, but says this is what we have to do. All were in favor.

Youth Choir – youth choir is held the fourth Sunday of every month, except for April. On June 6th they will sing at St. Luke’s in Jamestown. We discussed liscencing for the music.

A Closer Walk – this is a Christian youth weekend that is held in New Jersey July 22-24. The cost will be $40 per person if there are more then 10 people going. Wendy will do some research on this.

Next meeting will be May 16, 2004 at LCLC.
