Youth Commission Meeting minutes

Meeting began shortly after 2 PM. Maggie Avery led opening devotion with readings from "The African Prayerbook" by Desmond Tutu.

Elections

Several open positions were addressed.

Following the resignation of The Rev. Carmen Seufert as treasurer’s position needed filled. Duties were reviewed by the Youth Missioner. Cindy Avery accepted the commission’s request to fill the position.

Bishop Robinson Society

Jay Phillippi, Youth Missioner, reviewed the upcoming calendar including November event in the southern tier. Event is called "We’re Here For Youth". Youth choir has been asked to attend and sing. Presentations to be done by Jay and Fr. Dan Weir. Still in need of an MC. Need for a youth and young adult to offer personal testimony. Brian Sharry suggested as youth, Wendy Schumacher or Terra Cutlip as young adults. Additional youth help will be needed as greeters and "gofers".

A second event will take place in the spring at Calvary Williamsville. Youth members agreed to work with making follow up calls.

Youth Missioner requested that Bishop Robinson Society be made the top priority for 2004-05 program year by the commission. Accepted unanimously.

Convention

Diocesan convention is October 29 and 30 on Grand Island. A delegate from each deanery is needed, to be appointed by the Youth Commission. The commission agreed to pay for the banquet costs for each delegate – Jay will handle details. The following youth will be approached:

Delegates will stay with youth choir at either St. Martin’s or Lewiston.

Resolution – The approved Guidelines for youth events and leaders previously accepted by the commission has been been withdrawn as a resolution for convention. Upon the advice of the resolutions committee this does NOT require the approval of convention. Youth Commission has the authority to establish guidelines for it’s ministries. The resolution committee was very complimentary about the guidelines. They have been submitted for the Bishop’s approval then will be published.

Tables – Display tables for both youth ministry and Bishop Robinson society will be needed. Jay will look into availability with Kathy Williams.

Service project – Host deanery has asked youth to assist in decorating for banquet. Youth Commission agrees to decorate place mats and to create center pieces. Invitation will be extended to any youth group in diocese to do this as well. Theme will be "The Light of Christ/ Let your light so shine".

Calendar

Bishop’s Ball set for Saturday Feb 5. Youth choir dates need to be provided, as well as Happening dates.

Camp

The Youth Missioner mentioned that the future of Senior High camp is being examined with particular emphasis on location. The possibility of moving to LCLC is under consideration. Pros and cons were discussed. It was noted that this would be a profound change moving from a conference to a camp type program.
