Minutes for the January 25, 2004 meeting

Held at St. Mark’s, Orchard Park

Opening prayer offered by Terra Cutlip

  1. Departure of Fr. Wilson Brown/need for new adult chair
  2. Need to do something as a thank you for Fr. Wilson discussed. Jay Phillippi had arranged for plaque thanking Fr. Wilson for his service and it was agreed to forward it to him in Florida. Fr. Wilson had sent the YC his love and affection. Four names were received as possibilities for the next adult chair, Wendy Schumacher, Butch Wiest, Fr. Dan Weir and Deacon Bruce Gillies. Unanimous vote to forward the candidates to the Bishop for selection of chair.

  3. May meeting of YC at Lake Chautauqua Lutheran Center
  4. Jay moved that the final meeting of the year be held in May rather than at camp (where it hasn’t worked very well) and that we hold the meeting at LCLC so the Commission could inspect the facility. Passed unanimously.

  5. Bishop’s Ball – scheduled for 2/21 from 7-11 at Calvary Williamsville. Calvary has been reserved and John Scavone will be approached to provide music again. Back up plan would be for Karaoke. New decorations have been ordered. The church will be open an hour in advance to decorate. Jay will take care of food.
  6. Happening - Youth Commission is asked to approve the $1,000 deposit for weekend #16 at Camp Pioneer. Brendan Haggerty will be rector. Passed unanimously.
  7. Routine matters –
  8. We’ve gotten out of some of our routines, like opening prayer, closing prayer, minutes need to be done and given to Jay so they can be posted on the web page. Nick Hurd moved that a sign up sheet be done for future devotions. Nick will do devotions in March, Rachel Phillippi will do them in May, Maggie Avery will do them in September and Fr. Dan Weir will do them in November. Passed unanimously

    6: Bishop Harold Barrett Robinson Society – this is a fundraising effort to find operating

    funds to support youth ministry in the diocese and at the local level. Informational events are coming up the first is at St. Matthias Feb 28. Members of the youth commission are needed to – write testimonials (single page long, double spaced, 12 font) to be used at the events, also members willing to deliver these testimonials at the event and to help out with hosting duties. Items for the wish list were discussed – 10 items needed for youth ministry. Suggestions were T-shirts for youth events; also Happening will provide further suggestions. Accepted unanimously

  9. Resolutions – Need to deal with procedures for dealing with issues at youth events. Jay will work on this and have for next meeting. Is also working on guidelines for leaders at youth events to be presented as a resolution at convention in fall.
  10. Camp issues – Cost for Sr. High will be $265 due to increases from SUNY Fredonia. Gary Schindler has agreed to become new Sleep Away director.
  11. Motion to adjourn at 3:55 PM. Unanimously approved.
